Two Oceans Aquarium Visit
Emmanual Educare Centre
13 March 2020

On Friday 13th March, we arranged for 39 children from Emmanuel Educare Centre in Khayelitsha to visit the Two Oceans Aquarium at the V&A Waterfront. The kids are between the ages of 3 and 5 years old. Four Co-Active members were available on the day and we included three volunteers to assist. The Educare Centre also brought with them four of their teachers. An extraordinary day out for these youngsters, this was their first visit to the Aquarium. For a lot of them it was the first time to see a fish and feel seaweed (let alone experience sting rays, sharks and turtles!). They were absolutely astounded – to say the least!

The Aquarium also arranged a puppet show for the kids which was communicated in their home language, isiXhosa. The puppet show featured a shark, a seal and a couple of dolphins – and the kids went absolutely crazy for it. It also conveyed an important message about the impact that plastic has on our oceans, which brought an essential educational and environmental aspect to the day. We ended the day having lunch outside and sharing pizzas. A super happy day doing good for these tiny tots! They had a lot of fun and we can assure you they felt a lot of love from us all!
